About the Role

The Daily Mail is recruiting a Senior Growth Editor to accelerate our audience growth across our digital platforms in pursuit of our subscription goals. The right candidate will translate research and insights into actionable newsroom strategies for growth and run experiments to help grow the size and engagement of our audience. This is a newly created role and sits at the intersection of journalism, audience and newsroom innovation. The role is ideal for someone who can combine strong editorial judgment and an analytical mindset to bring experimentation and growth best practices to the newsroom, and present insights to senior stakeholders with clarity and compelling storytelling.

Main Responsibilities

  • Drive acquisition and conversion of new, high-value audiences through implementing strategic growth initiatives and experimentation, prioritising relevance and intent.
  • Analyse complex audience and content performance data to identify opportunities for growth on and off platform, and assess the impact of audience growth initiatives.
  • Suggest and execute A/B tests, experiments and pilots aimed at better growing our target audiences.
  • Help to develop and optimise a roadmap of data-informed editorial growth strategies aligned with newsroom goals and subscription growth targets.
  • Build strong relationships with editors and stakeholders across the business to implement growth initiatives and best practices for specific audiences, platforms and user journeys.
  • Present insights in meetings with authority, clarity and confidence.
  • Support in building business cases for new launches, pilots and investment.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and audience growth best practices.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, data or a related field.
  • Experience in audience development, editorial data analysis or journalism, ideally within a subscriptions business.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using data to inform strategies and decisions.
  • Good editorial judgement and the ability to work and make decisions quickly.
  • Knowledge of A/B testing and conversion optimisation best practices.
  • Experience producing forecasts, tracking performance and building reports to support decision-making (desirable).
  • Audience-first mindset and deep understanding of digital news publishing, content formats and audience behaviours across channels, including social platforms.
  • Confident presenter, comfortable speaking to senior editors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to support and coach experienced journalists, building trust and credibility.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a willingness to experiment.
