The Daily Mail is looking for a sharp, highly motivated Data Journalist to join our award-winning newsroom in London. As part of our global Deep Dive department, you will be responsible for producing "must-read" data-led stories and utilities for our millions of engaged readers. Working collaboratively across the newsroom, you will focus on the biggest global talking points, from climate change and the cost-of-living crisis to the latest shifts in the digital world and breaking international news.

Main Responsibilities

  • Data hunting & analysis: You will track down, scrape, and compile unique datasets to find the "Mail" angle on trending news stories and themes.
  • Content creation: You will produce punchy copy and ensure every stat is bulletproof, adhering strictly to the Daily Mail’s editorial standards and stylebook.
  • Visual storytelling: Beyond raw data, you will work with our unrivalled design and development team to create compelling tools and visuals.
  • Collaboration: You will rarely work alone. You’ll partner with the wider newsroom, liaising with specialists to dive deeper.

Person Specification

  • Previous journalism experience, ideally 3+ years in a national newsroom.
  • Be self-motivated, brimming with innovative ideas and passionate for news.
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to operate under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a global team.
  • Understanding of how to use data analysis tools (R/Python or SQL, as well as Excel/Sheets).
