About the Role
The Daily Mail is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Data Editor to join our award-winning newsroom in London. As part of our global Deep Dive department, you will be responsible for producing "must-read" utilities for our millions of engaged readers. Working collaboratively across the newsroom, you will focus on the biggest global talking points, from climate change and the cost-of-living crisis to the latest shifts in the digital world and breaking international news.
Main Responsibilities
- Data hunting & analysis: You will track down, scrape, and compile unique datasets to find the "Mail" angle on trending news stories and themes.
- Content creation: You will produce punchy copy and ensure every stat is bulletproof, adhering strictly to the Daily Mail’s editorial standards and stylebook.
- Visual storytelling: Beyond raw data, you will work with our unrivalled design and development team to create compelling tools and visuals. You will partner with the wider newsroom, liaising with specialists and the wider Deep Dive team.
Person Specification
- Previous journalism experience, ideally 7+ years in a national newsroom
- Be self-motivated, brimming with innovative ideas and passionate for news
- Excellent writing skills, ability to operate under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a global team
- Understanding of how to use data analysis tools (R/Python or SQL, as well as Excel/Sheets)
