Projects combine practical engineering delivery with innovation, often solving complex integration challenges between process plant, control systems, and gas network requirements.
Role Overview
We are seeking an EC&I Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of biomethane and renewable gas projects across the UK. The role will focus on electrical, control, and instrumentation design for grid injection facilities, blending applications, carbon capture and associated infrastructure. You will play a key role in developing design packages from concept through detailed design and into construction support, working closely with multidisciplinary engineers, clients, and suppliers. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to contribute to the energy transition while working in a technically varied and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering
- Develop EC&I designs, including:
- Electrical distribution systems
- Control system architecture
- Instrumentation selection and specification
- Hazardous area equipment selection (ATEX/DSEAR)
- Block cable diagrams
- Loop drawings
- Instrument schedules
- Cable schedules
- Control philosophies
- Cause & effect matrices
- Functional design specifications
- Panel layouts and wiring diagrams
- P&IDs
- Hazardous area classification drawings
- Site layouts and equipment interfaces
- Provide technical input across project lifecycle stages:
- Feasibility and concept design
- FEED
- Detailed design
- Construction and commissioning support
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations, including:
- IGEM standards (where applicable)
- BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)
- ATEX/DSEAR requirements
- Functional safety principles (IEC 61508 / 61511 awareness desirable)
- Support development of new technologies and standardised solutions for biomethane injection.
- Contribute to internal engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
- Engage with R&D and innovation projects where applicable.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in EC&I design within one or more of the following sectors:
- Biomethane / anaerobic digestion
- Gas / utilities
- Process industries
- Energy infrastructure
Desirable
- Experience with biomethane grid injection systems or gas quality measurement.
- Knowledge of gas industry practices & standards.
- Functional safety or SIL lifecycle exposure.
- Experience supporting commissioning activities.
