The Opportunity which is a remotely/home based role
Chartered Quantity Surveyor (QS)
The team advise insurers and loss adjusters on the costs and contractual risk associated with the reinstatement of a broad range of property that has been damaged by fire, floods, explosions, earthquakes and other natural disasters in the UK and around the world. The QS would join the team based in the UK, working closely (or under guided supervision) with the other members, including quantity surveyors and various type of engineers, to deliver advice and reports.
Role
- Preparing estimates to cover all elements of the works (e.g. All BCIS elements), on a wide variety of property including commercial & public buildings, through to manufacturing, infrastructure, industry, petroleum and petrochemical facilities.
- The estimates may need to be compiled from base principles of labour, plant and materials where information is scant, or built up from the measurement of drawings and review of specifications into a Bills of Quantities.
- Reviewing estimates and tenders from third parties. Advising clients on the reasonableness of the quantities, unit rates, overhead, profit and preliminaries. Discussing and advising on differences in the first instance with our clients and then secondly with the Insured and their third party advisors.
- Assessment of contingency and risk allowances within estimates, to identify potential cost/time savings or where there is a risk that hidden costs may inflate an insurance claim. Looking at potential ways in order to mitigate financial risks associated with the reinstatement.
- Preparing cost and time option studies to assist in determining whether to repair or replace damaged property.
- Contract Administration would typically be undertaken as a third party review of contract documents, including bills of quantities, and advise on legal and contractual (cost and time) risks.
- Reviewing and monitoring ongoing expenses, assess project progress, and provide regular reports to clients, ensuring that the reinstatement is on track and within budget.
- Liaison and Coordination: You will work closing with insurance professionals (our clients) advising them on the above activities and so effective and discrete communication and collaboration throughout is imperative.
Requirements
- A member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS / FRICS)
- RICS accredited bachelor degree or similar
- Project experience with a Contractor and/or Consultant.
- Based in London or South East UK
- Willing to travel nationally and internationally at short notice (typically one or two days away. International work can be one or two weeks).
