Based in our Newcastle, UK office, the European Finance Associate will play a key supporting role in general accounting functions, including preparation of journal entries, month-end close, compiling special accounting reports, and balancing general and subsidiary ledgers.
Responsibilities:
- Process customer payments (cheques, credit cards, wire transfers) and apply to accounts accurately.
- Match vendor invoices with internal documentation and secure departmental approvals.
- Post invoices to the accounts payable system with correct general ledger coding.
- Reconcile accounts payable with the general ledger and ensure timely vendor payments.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Assist with daily accounting operations and maintain subsidiary ledgers.
- Manage fixed asset records and generate compliance/depreciation reports.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and relevant financial regulations.
- Maintain organised financial records and assist with audit preparation.
- Contribute to special projects and provide ad hoc support to the Finance Manager.
Qualifications:
- AAT Level 2 required; AAT Level 3 or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in finance or accounting roles.
- Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with AS400 and Infor/Mapics is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance standards.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage and interpret large datasets accurately.
