Purpose Of the Role: Reporting to the Import Customs Manager, the Import Customs Supervisor ensures the import customs team runs efficiently, compliantly, and in line with all regulatory requirements. With a strong focus on road‑freight clearances, the role is responsible for delivering a high‑quality service to customers across a range of export processes. A key part of the position is supporting new team members, refining workflows, and driving continuous improvement to optimise team performance.
Responsibilities:
- Supervising the import customs team in a fast‑paced environment
- Managing daily import operations when the Import Customs Manager is absent
- Providing effective customs solutions to meet service and operational deadlines
- Reviewing and improving processes without compromising quality
- Allocating tasks and overseeing daily declaration management
- Producing and monitoring KPIs to ensure targets are achieved
- Supporting the team with day‑to‑day issues and queries
- Maintaining compliance with Customs, AEO, and SOP requirements
- Working closely with internal teams, external customers, and customs authorities (HMRC, Border Force, DEFRA)
- Liaising with Head Office in Kempten on customs matters when required
- Promoting DACHSER values and supporting staff coaching, integration, and performance
- Managing absence records and contributing to appraisals
- Upholding Health & Safety, BRC, and ISO9001 standards
- Supporting a proactive safety culture and ensuring all team members follow H&S practices
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customs‑related role
- Good knowledge of third‑country customs regulations
- Strong understanding of customs procedures and formalities
- Working knowledge of UK CHIEF and related software
- Awareness of global geography
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong listening skills and ability to understand different perspectives
- Confident problem‑solving and analytical ability
- Professional approach to resolving issues
- Good numerical and IT literacy
- High accuracy and attention to detail
- Highly adaptable in a changing environment
