Purpose Of the Role

To support the efficient day‑to‑day operation of the warehouse by carrying out a range of logistics and handling activities. The role involves the safe receipt, storage, movement, and dispatch of goods, including loading and unloading deliveries, picking and preparing orders, and ensuring stock is accurately stored in designated locations. The Logistics Operative is responsible for maintaining high standards of health and safety, accuracy, and productivity, and may operate warehouse equipment where required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles, using appropriate manual handling techniques and material handling equipment (MHE) as required.
  • Support goods‑in and goods‑out activities by checking delivery and collection paperwork to ensure accuracy and compliance with operational procedures.
  • Label goods correctly and move stock to designated storage, picking, or staging areas within the warehouse.
  • Pick, prepare, and stage orders accurately and efficiently to meet dispatch and service level requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of daily warehouse operations.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure the warehouse environment remains clean, safe, and organised.
  • Carry out manual handling tasks when required to prepare goods for storage or dispatch.
  • Use handheld scanning equipment to accurately record stock movements and maintain up‑to‑date information within the warehouse management system.
  • Operate warehouse equipment, where trained and authorised, in line with health and safety requirements.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience in storing and retrieving heavy or high‑value goods within a warehouse environment.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work effectively with colleagues.
  • Good attention to detail to ensure accuracy in handling goods and documentation.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Capable of working on own initiative and unsupervised when required.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use warehouse systems and handheld scanners.
  • Good manual handling skills and awareness of safe lifting techniques.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety procedures within a warehouse setting.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills to support accurate stock handling and paperwork.
