Department: Commercial Technology and Regulatory

Location: London

The R&D team of 6 partners, 4 assistants and 1 trainee specialises in providing expert regulatory and commercial advice to a wide range of clients. We act for most of the UK’s leading insurers and brokers, a number of financial adviser networks, asset managers, banks and payment services firms. We also work with industry bodies such as the ABI, BIBA, LMA and PIMFA, and financial services work is a key part of the firm’s strategic plans for growth. The team also supports DAC Beachcroft’s corporate, health and real estate sectors, and forms part of the firm’s commercial and technology group. Many of the team have spent time on secondment, developing their expertise and building relationships with clients.

Our areas of focus are:

  • Financial services regulation: we provide advice on the scope of regulation and compliance with PRA and FCA rules, as well as supporting a wide range of corporate transactions and commercial agreements. Our work covers both non-contentious and contentious matters, including dispute resolution and regulatory investigations.
  • Data protection: working as part of our strong and growing national team focusing on data protection and related data regulatory areas, our team supports clients in all sectors to comply with current and future data protection and related legislation, and our work is increasingly international in scope.
  • Commercial law: we act for a large number of insurers, brokers, and other regulated businesses advising them on distribution and outsourcing agreements and a wide range of other commercial agreements. There is an increasing focus on AI and how this will affect our clients’ businesses in the future.

The team is based in London, but Bristol or Manchester would also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on a wide range of commercial, regulatory and data protection law matters mainly but not exclusively in the firm’s core insurance and financial services sector.
  • Work with colleagues around the firm, in the UK and internationally.
  • Be encouraged to develop strong relationships with clients and to take on responsibility for managing work yourself.
  • Deliver clear, timely and practical advice to clients.

  • Support and contribute to marketing and business development activity within the team.
  • Be part of a friendly, supportive team.

  • Deals confidently and professionally with clients on day-to-day issues.
  • Demonstrates an appropriate level of self-sufficiency and ability to manage your own matters day-to-day.
  • Takes a commercial perspective rather than an academic approach to legal issues.
