DAC Beachcroft is looking to recruit a Paralegal to join our Clinical Risk team in Bristol. This role presents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and passionate individual to join an award-winning, progressive and highly specialised team. Our Clinical Risk cluster is the biggest nationally, handling a challenging but fulfilling caseload of defendant clinical negligence work, acting for a variety of clients, which may include work for NHS Resolution, NHS Trusts, MDU, independent providers, and medical malpractice insurers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting the team on interesting and varied work consisting of pre-lit and litigated defendant clinical negligence claims on behalf of NHS Resolution and NHS Trusts.
- This will involve a wide range of task-based work, including instructing experts and counsel, liaising with witnesses, arranging conferences, drafting documents, undertaking research and dealing with disclosure issues.
- There will also be opportunities to attend conferences and hearings with counsel.
- Adhering closely to client protocol and process, using our bespoke case management system.
- Making an appropriate contribution to non-fee-earning activity e.g. knowledge sharing, training, client seminars and business development.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous clinical negligence experience would be highly desirable but is not essential.
- We will also consider candidates with limited experience but who have strong academic qualifications, are practical and enthusiastic and who have a strong sense of team and a desire to learn.
- An ability to understand and work through complex issues.
- A demonstrable ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues and to be highly client-focused.
- Ability to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day-to-day issues building up strong relationships.
