Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is open to all nationalities. To be eligible, you’ll need:

  • A first-class or upper second-class degree (or equivalent from outside the UK) in a relevant field.
  • Backgrounds welcomed in: biological/biomedical sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, or computer science.
  • Prior research experience or a master’s degree in a related subject.

No upfront English test scores are needed during application—you’ll only be asked after receiving an offer.

The application process for the Crick PhD Programme 2026 begins in early October 2025, when applications officially open. Candidates must ensure they submit their applications by Wednesday, 5 November 2025 at 12:00 midday GMT, as late submissions will not be considered. References are due shortly after, with a strict deadline of Wednesday, 12 November 2025 at 12:00 midday GMT.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to take part in panel interviews via Zoom between 14 and 16 January 2026. Following this, selected candidates will attend the in-person open afternoons and lab visits at the Crick on 19 and 20 January 2026, offering them the chance to meet research groups and explore facilities.

Successful applicants will officially begin their PhD journey in late September 2026.
