Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor (Nights)

Hours: 40 hours per week.
Shift Pattern:
* Monday to Thursday: 21:30 – 07:00 (1-hour unpaid break)
* Friday: 19:30 – 01:30
About the Role
Our client are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Officer to join their team and play a vital role in maintaining and improving their health, safety, and environmental standards. This position is key to ensuring legal compliance, promoting a positive safety culture, and supporting continuous improvement across all operational activities.
This is a hands-on role involving both office-based responsibilities and regular time spent in the workplace engaging directly with employees, conducting inspections, and delivering training.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the HSE Manager in ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
* Assist in maintaining and developing the Company’s ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
* Conduct risk assessments, develop safe systems of work, and implement effective control measures.
* Deliver HSE induction training for new employees and contractors.
* Plan and deliver regular toolbox talks and in-house training sessions on key safety topics.
* Lead and support accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of preventative actions.
* Carry out regular workplace inspections and audits, ensuring observations and actions are appropriately recorded and followed up.
* Assist in the coordination of external audits, including preparation of documentation and attendance.
* Monitor and manage operational compliance in areas such as LOLER, PUWER, working at height, confined spaces, and manual handling.
* Support the development and implementation of training plans and schedules.
* Engage with employees across all levels to foster a proactive and inclusive safety culture.
* Liaise with external stakeholders including Occupational Health providers, insurance companies, the HSE, and local authorities.
* Contribute to environmental initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving sustainability.
Candidate Profile
Experience and Knowledge
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing or similar industrial environment (experience as a consultant is not suitable for this role).
* Proven experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems is highly desirable.
* Strong working knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation and the ability to apply this in a practical, operational setting.
* Previous experience conducting audits, investigations, and delivering internal training.

Qualifications
* NEBOSH General Certificate (essential); NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
* IEMA or equivalent environmental qualification (desirable).
* ISO 45001 / 14001 internal or lead auditor qualification (desirable)
