We're looking for an experienced, adaptable Workshop Manager/Assistant Service Manager to join our York site. This is a fabulous opportunity to join a family run business in the AM top 50 and represent one of our fantastic manufacturer partners.
About the Business
Our business started over 60 years ago and has been in the same family ever since. From our very humble beginnings, we have grown to be in the top 50 car dealers in the country. Across our 26 businesses we have a stable workforce of over 600 people, many of whom have been with us for years. We are always on the lookout for nice, genuine people who genuinely care about our customers and have a can-do attitude. Our recruitment philosophy is that we recruit for attitude and train for skills, which means that although we’re often looking for specific technical skills, if you like working with customers and you are attracted by our Family Values of Fit, Fun, Family and Fearless, you’ll fit in well here and we’d like to hear from you even if you have no experience of the automotive industry.
We’ll expect you to work hard but in return we’ll offer you an industry leading package, flexible working hours and a real opportunity to progress: we prefer to promote from within and you will see this in every one of our sites. You must possess an outrageous ambition to want to be the best and you won’t let anyone stop you.
About you
We are seeking an experienced operator with a proven track record of delivering strong workshop performance through the motivation and leadership of a diverse technician workforce. You will assist in overseeing workshop activity across multiple brands, including responsibility for a Battery Competency Centre, requiring both strong technical credibility and effective people leadership. It will be your job to ensure vehicles move through the workshop in a seamless and efficient manner, liaising closely with Service Advisors to keep customers fully up to date at every stage. This is an exciting challenge for an experienced Workshop Controller/Manager with excellent people management skills.
Your main focus will be supervising and prioritising the Technicians’ workload within a very busy workshop, ensuring all work is completed to high Brand standards while adhering to departmental budgets and timescales. In addition to running the workshop, you will:
- Act as deputy to the Service Manager, providing cover when required
- Work seamlessly with the service front-of-house and warranty teams, which is essential given the breadth and scope of the role
This is a busy service department that will give you the opportunity to utilise your skills and experience to help drive the department forward. You will need strong people management skills and be able to demonstrate that you can control a workshop of Technicians efficiently. Quality Control experience would also be advantageous.
What we offer
- Worldclass training provided from our own trainer and our brand partners
- 30 days annual leave inclusive of 8 bank holidays, increasing with length of service
- Preferential rates for servicing and repairs on your family and friend’s cars.
We are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, religion, disability or other characteristics.
