The D.E.Shaw group seeks a senior systems engineer with extensive Linux experience to join its Platform Engineering team. This is a hands‑on, technical role within a global cross‑platform engineering team responsible for the firm’s core technology infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a collaborative and engaging working environment.
What you’ll do day-to-day:
- Be part of a team that designs and maintains the firm’s global network, operating systems, security policy and infrastructure, and core network services across our datacenters, cloud services, and global offices.
- Work to continuously improve the security framework of a fast‑paced, large‑scale infrastructure environment that supports investment activity and technology development across the firm.
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and integration of infrastructure systems, particularly—but not exclusively—on Linux‑based systems.
Who we’re looking for:
- At least ten years of comparable work experience and development experience in Python is required; a degree in computer science or another technical discipline is preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting capabilities and experience with diagnostic tracing tools at both the host and network level, along with in-depth knowledge of Linux‑based operating systems and associated configuration management tools.
- Impressive communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across a global team and with different departments at the firm.
- Familiarity with automated build, software deployment, and CI/CD systems.
- Experience with Rust, Java, C, Go, and C# is preferred, as is experience maintaining infrastructure related to DNS, DHCP, and Kerberos.
- Working knowledge of network protocols, information security concepts, databases, large‑scale storage, and Windows/Linux interoperation is also preferred.
