The D.E.Shaw group seeks an engineer proficient in Windows software development and systems administration to join its Platform Engineering team. This is a hands-on, technical role on a cross-platform engineering team that’s responsible for core technology infrastructure in an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment.
What you’ll do day-to-day
Platform Engineering designs and maintains the firm\’s operating systems, authentication systems, databases, virtualization infrastructure, core network services, and messaging and endpoints on Windows and Linux in both our internal- and external-facing environments. This engineer will be tasked with the design, implementation, and integration of infrastructure systems, particularly—though not exclusively—on Windows-based systems.
Who we’re looking for
Candidates should have a degree in computer science (or another technical discipline) or comparable work experience.
Significant Windows software development and systems automation experience is required. Experience with C# or PowerShell is preferred; experience with Python and Rust is beneficial.
An in-depth understanding of the Windows platform and related technologies (e.g., Active Directory and Failover Clustering) is required, as are excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and familiarity with a variety of tracing tools (e.g., WireShark, ETW, and ProcMon). Experience with common Windows Server applications and management tools (e.g., Exchange, SQL, SCCM, Hyper-V, and ADFS) is also preferred.
A working knowledge of network protocols, Linux, and information security concepts is required. Experience integrating systems across on-premises and cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, and GCP) and working with containers on Windows and Linux is preferred.
Outstanding communication skills are imperative, as the role will entail significant interaction with different departments in the firm.
