DCS Group is looking for a reliable and safety-focused Yardman/Shunter to join our Operations team. This role plays a key part in ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of trailers across site while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
The Yardman/Shunter is responsible for the safe and efficient shunting, loading, and unloading of vehicles in line with site safety standards and operational schedules. You will unload delivery vehicles in accordance with the Goods In diary, checking loads for stability and damage, and load outbound vehicles accurately to the Goods Out schedule. All activities are carried out using a Powered Pallet Truck (PPT) and Counterbalance forklift.
Key Responsibilities- Safely shunt trailers to and from the lorry park in line with all Health & Safety guidelines
- Load and unload vehicles efficiently in accordance with Goods In and Goods Out schedules
- Monitor the LRS system to ensure arriving vehicles are processed on time and prevent pull-outs
- Ensure all pallets are securely wrapped to prevent transit damage and confirm driver load strapping where possible
- Follow load sheets accurately, ensuring the correct pallets are loaded onto the correct vehicles
- Identify, report, and isolate damaged goods to prevent product contamination
- Report any product contamination immediately in line with procedures
- Carry out general warehouse duties to support operational requirements
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Operate PPTs, Counterbalance forklifts, and other handling equipment safely and compliantly
- Conduct and record daily vehicle safety checks
- Clean trucks in line with the cleaning schedule
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping at all times
- Ensure all activities involving medicines and medical devices comply with Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested to support warehouse and yard operations
