The Lead Automation Manufacturing Engineer resolves daily operational challenges, engages in strategic initiatives, and focuses on continuous improvement and automation in bioprocessing hardware manufacturing. This role also contributes to new product development and supports custom projects.
This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Managers and is part of the Hardware Manufacturing Engineering Team located in Shrewsbury, MA and will be on-site position.
What you will do:
- Technical Expertise: Serve as the primary technical escalation contact for production, troubleshoot both automation software and hardware systems, develop manufacturing tools and fixtures, and resolve operational issues.
- Collaboration with Automation Teams: Work closely with integration and automation teams to support the implementation and maintenance of PLC, SCADA, and networking architectures for products deployed on DeltaV, Aveva, and PlantPAx platforms.
- Process Alignment and Readiness: Understand and improve automation processes to ensure manufacturing readiness for upstream bioprocessing hardware.
- Product Quality and Process Development: Enhance product quality and processes by addressing automation issues, implementing cost-effective solutions, and providing customer-focused support.
- Quality and Regulatory Compliance: Align manufacturing processes with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Who you are:
- A Bachelor\’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Computer Systems Engineering, or related technical field, or an Associate\’s degree with extensive experience in engineering, and production/troubleshooting of bioprocessing equipment.
- Experience with PLCs and SCADA systems, including knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
- Demonstrated capability in troubleshooting, analytical, and planning skills, along with a working knowledge of manufacturing principles and quality improvement techniques.
- Proven communication skills (written and verbal) with all levels of the organization.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Experience in the Bio-Science, Medical Device, or Pharma industries.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and diagrams and/or familiarity with Upstream Bioprocessing equipment.
- Proficiency in using Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, DeltaV Explorer, or DeltaV Live.
