CyrusOne is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Environmental Permitting to lead environmental permitting initiatives across our growing European data centre portfolio. Based in London, this role will shape and execute permitting strategies that ensure compliance with UK and EU environmental regulations, while supporting the company’s commitment to sustainable development and operational excellence.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement standardised procedures, tools, and training programmes to support environmental due diligence and permitting activities across CyrusOne’s European portfolio.
- Provide expert guidance on environmental assessments and permitting, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, noise impact studies, air quality permitting, water and wetlands assessments, biodiversity and ecological evaluations, and heritage/cultural resource reviews.
- Lead and manage long-lead permitting processes across multiple sites, ensuring alignment with project timelines and strategic objectives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal site selection, design, construction, and operations teams to ensure environmental requirements are clearly communicated and integrated into project planning, execution, and handover.
- Represent CyrusOne in external stakeholder engagements as needed, including community consultations, planning authority meetings, and regulatory discussions.
- Monitor and interpret changes in UK and EU environmental legislation, directives, and policy developments, advising internal teams on implications and compliance strategies.
Minimum Requirements Experience/Skills
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in environmental permitting and due diligence, ideally within infrastructure, energy, or data centre sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of European environmental regulations, including the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), and their application across jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with UK-specific permitting frameworks and planning processes is highly desirable.
- Experience in environmental permitting for data centres or similar high-impact infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Proven ability to interpret and communicate complex regulatory requirements to diverse audiences.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Comfortable presenting technical and regulatory information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
Work Environment
This is a London-based office role with occasional travel (up to 25%) across Europe to support permitting activities and stakeholder engagements.
