Overview

• Salary: starts at £35,000 depending on experience.
• Holiday: 24 days paid holiday (pro rata) + your birthday off + bank holidays + one extra holiday day for every 12 months you stay with us.
• Working Together: We spend three days per week together in our lovely London office (39 floors up in Canary Wharf). The rest of the time, you can choose to work from wherever you are most productive and happy.
• Working Hours: 8hrs per day Mon-Fri, 40hrs per week.
• Training: individual training plan and budget for one certification / course per year.
• Socials: We meet regularly to have a drink, throw some axes.
• Start Date: ASAP.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: a graduate (undergrad or postgrad) with a technical academic background in artificial intelligence (AI), computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy: confident with n8n, git (branches, commits, pull requests) and already build with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar).
• Fluent in English: as this role has some client facing and business development elements, you must be highly proficient with business level English.
• Location: must be able to attend the office 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays).

The Role

As a Junior Automation Developer, you are joining CyPro's automation function at the ground level, working directly with the Head of Automation to build the systems that run the business. Your primary goal is to learn fast and grow into an independently capable automation developer: someone who can take a business problem from a colleague, design the workflow and data model, build it, test it, document it, ship it and support it. You will receive structured mentoring and pair on live builds from your first week, with the clear objective of progressing into an Automation Developer position owning systems end to end.

Building and Shipping Automations

• Build and extend workflow automations under supervision: webhooks, scheduled jobs, orchestrators, data pipelines and integrations with third-party APIs.
• Follow CyPro's build standards, design and maintain database schemas, migrations and queries for the systems you work on.
• Diagnose and fix failing or silently misbehaving workflows, learning our catalogue of known failure modes and adding to it.

AI and Language Model Work

• Write, test and iterate on prompts that generate client-facing content (reports, proposals, bulletins), applying our house style and quality rules.
• Build retrieval and knowledge-base features: document ingestion, chunking, vector search and citation.
• Evaluate model outputs against expected results, build regression harnesses, and track cost and token usage.
• Use AI coding assistants as a core part of daily work, and learn to direct them well: clear specifications, review of generated output, and knowing when not to trust them.

Data, Integrations and Infrastructure

• Work with Azure services that host our platform: container apps, Key Vault, Blob Storage, Azure OpenAI, PostgreSQL.
• Build and document API and webhook contracts for the front-end developer to consume.
• Assist with platform operations: monitoring, backups, incident response when a workflow or the platform itself fails, and post-incident write-ups.

Working with the Business

• Gather requirements from consultants, the SOC and the leadership team, turning meeting notes and feedback into qualified, buildable changes then logging the internal documentation for every system.
• Occasionally assist with wider CyPro operational and marketing tasks when required (for example reporting, research, blog tooling, website changes).
• Security Engineering: support with the creation of new detection rules in the SOC.

Learning and Development

• Become fluent in workflow automation, python, JavaScript, REST APIs and the Azure platform through hands-on work with mentoring.
• Work towards a recognised cloud or data certification, for example Microsoft AZ-900 or AZ-204, or DP-900.
• Keep up to date with developments in language models, agentic tooling and automation platforms, and bring ideas for how we can use them.
• Proactively seek feedback and identify areas for growth in both technical and professional skills.

What We Are Looking For

We care more about who you are than what you already know. The technical stack can be taught. The following cannot.

• Ambition: you want to build things that matter and you want to be trusted with more, quickly.
• Builder's instinct: you have made something outside of coursework. A side project, a small business, an app, a bot, a script that saved someone hours, a website that earns a little money. Tell us about it in your application; it is the first thing we will ask about.
• Curiosity about AI and automation: you already use AI tools to get things done and have opinions on what they are good and bad at.
• Comfortable with the modern developer workflow: You are comfortable with git (branches, commits, pull requests), you already build with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar) rather than treating them as autocomplete. You do not need to be a software engineer.
• Comfort with ambiguity: you would rather be handed a problem than a ticket.

Interview Process

We operate differently. No long drawn out recruitment processes - we generally can get candidates through our process (from START to FINISH) within 10 days. Successful candidates can expect the following 3 stage process for this role:

• Video Introduction - record a short 2-3 minute introductory video for us.
• Telephone Interview - a 20 minute initial chat with a Cyber Security Manager.
• Assessment Centre - a morning in our Canary Wharf office where we do some fun exercises together, psychometric tests and hold the final interview with a practice partner.
