CY Partners is supporting the search for a Director of Global Congress Strategy to join a leading Global Scientific Communications organisation, with responsibility for the Respiratory therapeutic area. This is a high-impact, strategic leadership role at the centre of global congress planning.
You will shape TA-level congress strategy, sponsorship decisions, and scientific narratives, ensuring cohesive and compliant execution across assets and markets. Working in close partnership with Medical and Commercial teams, you will drive excellence in global congress delivery and elevate scientific engagement across the respiratory portfolio.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the annual global congress planning process for the Respiratory therapeutic area, aligned to overarching medical and commercial strategy.
- Develop and own TA-level congress strategy, including sponsorship decisions and end-to-end scientific narratives.
- Ensure alignment of congress plans and narratives across assets and the wider TA, partnering closely with Global Medical and Commercial teams.
- Provide strategic direction on content required to deliver compelling scientific narratives within a broader strategic context.
- Act as a global medical leader for congress activity, including society relationship management and collaboration with local markets.
- Build and manage strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure on-strategy delivery.
- Define, evaluate, and evolve congress KPIs, sharing insights to optimise priorities and investment decisions.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant codes and systems (e.g. ABPI, company codes), with clear distinction between promotional and non-promotional activity.
- Share best practices and innovations across global congress activities to drive consistency and excellence.
- Stay abreast of external trends and advancements in congressing to continuously evolve global approaches.
Degree in science, medicine, pharmacy, or a related discipline (minimum requirement).
Experience Required- Extensive experience in scientific communications and/or global congress planning and execution within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical congress landscape, industry codes, and best practices.
- Proven experience partnering with Medical and Commercial teams to deliver aligned, high-impact outcomes.
- Track record of developing and implementing strategic congress plans and scientific narratives.
- Experience leveraging innovative technology and digital tools to enhance scientific communication.
- Strong external stakeholder engagement experience (e.g. physicians, payers, patients) within Respiratory or a related TA.
- Excellent vendor and cross-functional stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical capability, with experience translating insights into strategic decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently and deliver to deadlines.
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic mindset with strong analytical and project management capability.
