CY Partners are currently recruiting for a Microbiology Technologist to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation in the North East. Working within the QC Microbiology team, you will play a key role in supporting environmental monitoring programmes and ensuring manufacturing areas meet the highest microbiological standards within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced microbiology professional with cleanroom or environmental monitoring experience, or a Life Sciences graduate with relevant industrial laboratory experience looking to develop their career within pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The Role
As a Microbiology Technologist, you will be responsible for performing environmental monitoring activities and microbiological testing to support sterile manufacturing operations, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with GMP regulations and standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out environmental monitoring within cleanroom manufacturing areas.
- Perform surface monitoring using contact plates and swab sampling techniques.
- Conduct viable and non-viable air sampling in classified cleanroom environments.
- Perform routine microbiological testing in accordance with approved SOPs and GMP requirements.
- Maintain excellent aseptic technique throughout all laboratory and manufacturing support activities.
- Accurately document results using laboratory systems and ensure compliance with data integrity requirements.
- Support investigations relating to environmental monitoring excursions where required.
- Work collaboratively with the wider QC Microbiology and Manufacturing teams to maintain compliance and product quality.
- Participate in the 24/7 rotating shift pattern to support continuous manufacturing operations.
About You
We're looking for candidates who have:
Essential
- A degree in Microbiology or another Life Sciences discipline, or equivalent laboratory experience.
- A sound understanding of microbiological principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow written procedures accurately.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Willingness to work a 24/7 rotating shift pattern.
Desirable
- Previous experience working in a GMP or pharmaceutical environment.
- Experience working in cleanrooms or other controlled environments.
- Practical experience of environmental monitoring, including:
- Surface swabbing and contact plate sampling.
- Viable air sampling.
- Non-viable particle monitoring.
- Experience maintaining aseptic technique.
- Understanding of GMP and data integrity requirements.
- Experience using laboratory systems such as LIMS, SAP or other electronic laboratory systems.
