We are now seeking a Freelance Gallery Manager to support our operations, logistics, and production β€” someone who thrives in a detail-oriented environment and understands the demands of the commercial art world.

The Role

This is a key freelance role, working 3 days per week, with flexibility required during high-volume periods (installations, deinstalls, and art fairs). You’ll ensure the gallery runs smoothly behind the scenes β€” from planning and logistics to inventory and team coordination. This position requires you to be self-employed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day gallery operations, ensuring deadlines and tasks are met with precision
  • Lead logistical coordination of exhibitions, installations, deinstalls, and art fair participation
  • Manage shipping of artworks nationally and internationally
  • Maintain the gallery calendar and oversee timelines across multiple concurrent projects
  • Liaise with shippers, technicians, and clients to deliver high-quality coordination
  • Act as frequent point of contact for artists, ensuring clear and efficient communication
  • Support private views, art fairs, exhibitions, and events with client-facing participation
  • Oversee sales management and operations alongside the director
  • Manage gallery inventory on Artlogic and produce up-to-date location reports when required

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a commercial gallery
  • Background in a registrar, gallery assistant, or gallery manager role
  • Excellent working knowledge of Artlogic across contacts, inventory, presentations, and document generation
  • Strong logistical and organisational skills; able to anticipate, flag, and resolve operational issues quickly
  • Clear communicator, confident managing multiple stakeholders
  • Calm under pressure, with a solutions-driven mindset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Ability to work flexible, extended hours during busy periods
  • Experience with international art shipping and customs processes
  • Familiarity with the UK and US art markets
