About Us
We are a fast-paced, nomadic international contemporary art gallery with an ambitious programme and a strong presence at international art fairs. We work closely with a roster of established and emerging artists, and pride ourselves on delivering exhibitions and events with precision and professionalism. We are now seeking a Freelance Gallery Manager to support our operations, logistics, and production β someone who thrives in a detail-oriented environment and understands the demands of the commercial art world.
The Role
This is a key freelance role, working 3 days per week, with flexibility required during high-volume periods (installations, deinstalls, and art fairs). Youβll ensure the gallery runs smoothly behind the scenes β from planning and logistics to inventory and team coordination. This position requires you to be self-employed.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day gallery operations, ensuring deadlines and tasks are met with precision
- Lead logistical coordination of exhibitions, installations, deinstalls, and art fair participation
- Manage shipping of artworks nationally and internationally
- Maintain the gallery calendar and oversee timelines across multiple concurrent projects
- Liaise with shippers, technicians, and clients to deliver high-quality coordination
- Act as frequent point of contact for artists, ensuring clear and efficient communication
- Support private views, art fairs, exhibitions, and events with client-facing participation
- Oversee sales management and operations alongside the director
- Manage gallery inventory on Artlogic and produce up-to-date location reports when required
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 yearsβ experience in a commercial gallery
- Background in a registrar, gallery assistant, or gallery manager role
- Excellent working knowledge of Artlogic across contacts, inventory, presentations, and document generation
- Strong logistical and organisational skills; able to anticipate, flag, and resolve operational issues quickly
- Clear communicator, confident managing multiple stakeholders
- Calm under pressure, with a solutions-driven mindset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- Ability to work flexible, extended hours during busy periods
- Experience with international art shipping and customs processes
- Familiarity with the UK and US art markets
