The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

We operate a bilingual policy. All applicants are invited to apply in Welsh; any application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application made in English.

We are looking to recruit a full-time translator to provide simultaneous translation, in addition to translating documents, to join our translation team on a permanent, full-time basis. On a day-to-day basis, you will deal with the translation of documents and share the responsibility for simultaneous translation with other members of the team as required. The successful candidate will be required to support the coordination and management of external translation work and to be responsible for the interpretation equipment.

We want to recruit an individual with experience of translation work, with good computer and word processing skills who can organise and prioritise work, working under pressure and under challenging circumstances. Due to the requirements of the role, the successful candidate must have a level of fluency in Welsh, ALTE level 5 on appointment.

Where you’ll work:

Democratic Services play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient management of the decision-making process of the Council, including support and advice to Councillors; PA, administrative and project management support to all service areas; facilitating elections; the communications team; translation and the Welsh Language policy officer. Our key functions include:

  • Corporate Service Support: PA and Administrative support; Business support including project management and minute taking.
  • Democratic Services: Councillors; Council, Cabinet, Overview and Scrutiny Committees and Regulatory Committees.
  • Electoral Services: General and local elections; Management of electoral register.
  • Communications Team: Manage communication activities corporately; support services in campaigns and projects; deal with the press and media; develop and issue press releases; manage social media pages.
  • Translation: Documents and simultaneous translation.
  • Welsh Language Standards: Operational; Policy making; Promotion; Monitoring; Service delivery.
