The Trade Sales Officer role is part of the Planning, Transport, and Environment Directorate, specifically within the Waste Management and Trade section. Our service is dedicated to generating income for the Council, as well as positively contributing towards recycling performance, by securing Trade Waste agreements and supporting businesses in Cardiff to comply with policies and statutory requirements. We aim to deliver comprehensive value-for-money services through collaboration with various internal and external customers.

As a Trade Sales Officer, you will be responsible for generating income by securing Trade Waste agreements and contributing to the delivery of the Trade Waste business plan. Your duties will include:

  • Proactive sales activities
  • Customer retention strategies
  • Contract management
  • Debt management

You will act as the first point of contact for customer disputes and work closely with Trade Operations to coordinate appropriate resolutions. Additionally, you will participate in Trade Waste projects, deliver training, provide leadership, and undertake research. The role requires occasional work outside of office hours and a valid driver's license.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual with proven customer care and sales activity experience. You should have knowledge of waste management legislation and policies, and experience working in a waste management setting is desirable. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with the ability to create workable solutions to complex problems. You should be a team player, self-motivated, and capable of working independently. A flexible approach to working hours and a commitment to the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy are also required.

The successful applicants should be able to communicate effectively in Welsh to Level 5 – Proficient. This vacancy is suitable for post share. A full valid driving licence and use of a car are essential requirements of this role. We welcome applications in both English and Welsh.
