Our Bilingual Cardiff Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Bilingual Administration Support Assistant based at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4U to contribute to our Service, helping us to provide support and advice on the implementation of the Council’s adopted Welsh language standards, the delivery of high-quality Welsh language services, and the provision of Welsh to English and English to translation services.
Bilingual Cardiff leads in the development of a truly bilingual Cardiff where everyone in the capital can benefit from services and support in either Welsh or English equally by working in partnership with others. The number of Welsh speakers in Cardiff has doubled over the past 25 years, and Cardiff is an increasingly bilingual city. As a local authority, we are working with companies in the private and third sector as part of the wider ‘Bilingual Cardiff’ strategy aimed at promoting and supporting the Welsh language in Cardiff. The aim is to bring down the barriers between the Welsh and English languages, promote bilingualism as something completely natural, and ensure that the Council’s vision of creating a ‘bilingual Cardiff’ is realised

This role will involve working online from home and/or a mix of home and office (hybrid) working.
About the job
In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) role you will learn to:
- provide an efficient and effective service and respond to customer enquiries by telephone, e-mail and face-to-face;
- communicate with Bilingual Cardiff’s translation service customers to confirm return dates and extensions for translation;
- create translation billing reports,
- take minutes for internal and external meetings;
- use various software applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, Sharepoint, and Teams;
- support Bilingual Cardiff events with schools and other stakeholders; and
- develop knowledge and understanding of the work and responsibilities of working in Local Government in Cardiff and how the Bilingual Cardiff team supports the Council to deliver services in Welsh.
To support your development, you will undertake a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Digital Application Supportat Level 2 in the role and will receive on the job training and supervision to help you deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive and customer focussed manner. You will also be supported by your manager and a named mentor who will encourage you to develop a range of transferrable skills to support your career progression.
Many of our teams work online with a mix of home or hybrid (office) working. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment and training, however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (support may be available to help with this).

As a Corporate Apprentice, you will gain valuable experience working for Cardiff – the largest Council in Wales. Although we cannot guarantee that you will go on to secure a further role at the end of the initial contract, you will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation to help progress your career.
To be eligible to apply for this role, you must live in Cardiff and have not already gained the apprenticeship qualification (or NVQ equivalent) offered in this role at the same Level or higher. This post is temporary for 21 months if worked full time, or longer if worked part time. Most roles are based on a 37-hour week though many roles can be worked on a part time basis at a minimum of 16 hours per week for apprentice roles.
