About the job
Cardiff Council is seeking a passionate and experienced Conservatory and Nursery Manager to lead the operations of our prestigious Bute Park Nursery and Roath Park Conservatory. This is a rare opportunity to manage one of the city’s most iconic horticultural facilities, supporting Cardiff’s green infrastructure and sustainability goals.
You will oversee plant production for city-wide displays, including seasonal and hardy stock material, ensure that contract obligations are fully met, manage and develop Roath Park Conservatory and visitor experience, and lead a skilled team of specialist horticulturists and apprentices.
The role also involves community engagement, educational outreach and developing income opportunities to sustain the service function.
Working for one of the largest employers in Wales, an exciting management opportunity exists for a committed and experienced individual with strong leadership skills, attention to detail and the ability to use computer systems and software packages, to join a motivated and passionate group of officers working within the Economic Development Directorate, leading the operational function and development of our nursery and conservatory functions.
What We Are Looking For From You
The candidate must have a recognised qualification in commercial horticulture or related discipline to level 3 or above and hold a supervisor or managerial qualification.
Demonstrate significant experience in horticulture, able to manage and lead individuals, teams and contractors, whilst cross working with other teams within the Service Area.
A passion and energy to safeguard, improve and enhance service function, whilst developing and fostering relationships with stakeholders and key partners.
Be committed to lead a small team whilst fostering an environment where staff can grow and be developed. You will work closely and effectively with other managers to help shape service delivery and problem solve.
A commitment to Council’s policies on Equality and Diversity must also be demonstrated. With credibility, energy and determination, you will be alert and responsive with the ability to quickly resolve a wide range of problems, working at pace, under pressure to deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy.

A full and valid driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.
