Cardiff Council’s Trade Waste Service provides commercial waste and recycling collection services to businesses across the city. The service is focused on providing reliable, efficient and customer-focused services while supporting businesses to manage their waste responsibly and increase recycling.
Our Trade Waste team brings together operational and sales functions to support both existing and new customers. This role will provide important site-based support to the service, including customer visits, site assessments, container and asset checks, RFID tagging and ensuring service information is accurate and up
About the job
This is a varied, practical role that will involve working out in the community and visiting our trade waste customers across the city. You will carry out site assessments, container and asset checks, install and replace RFID tags, verify customer and service information, and help ensure our records are accurate and up to date.
You will work closely with our Operations and Sales Officers, supporting the introduction of new services, gathering information and photographs where required, identifying and reporting service or safety issues, and helping us improve the overall service we provide to our customers.
We are looking for someone who is confident dealing with customers, comfortable working independently, well organised and able to use mobile technology and IT systems accurately. The role would suit someone who enjoys a mixture of customer contact, practical site work and administrative duties, rather than being based in an office all day
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and confident working independently, with a practical approach to problem solving and a strong focus on providing good customer service.
You will be comfortable communicating with a wide range of customers and colleagues, including dealing professionally with difficult situations when required. You will need good written and verbal communication skills and be able to accurately record information and report any issues identified during site visits.
You should be confident using Microsoft Office and mobile technology such as smartphones and tablets, and be willing to learn the Council systems used by the service. Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your own workload are also important.
As much of the role involves visiting customer premises, you must be comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions and travelling between sites. A full valid driving licence is essential.
Additional information
This is a full-time, field-based role, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, generally between 8:00am and 4:00pm, with occasional overtime as required. The post is based at Lamby Way Depot, Cardiff, although you will be required to work at various locations depending on the needs of the service.
The successful applicant will receive the appropriate training and support to undertake the role and will be expected to participate in relevant training and development as required.
This vacancy is suitable for post share.
We welcome applications in both English and Welsh. Applications received in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than English applications.
