About the job

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery and development of Governor Services, providing advice, guidance and support to Headteachers, school governing bodies and clerks.

You will play an important role i n supporting the strengthening governance across Cardiff schools, coordinating professional learning and development opportunities for governors and clerks and working closely with education colleagues, schools and partners to support effective governance practice.

This role will involve supporting key initiatives and areas of work such as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within school governance, developing recruitment and retention programmes, increasing confidence in governance leadership including safeguarding, and supporting governors with all aspects of their role. A significant aspect of the role will be working with schools, elected members, businesses, community groups and partner organisations to recruit, develop and retain governors, particularly from underrepresented groups, to ensure governing bodies better reflect the communities they serve. You will also contribute to service improvement projects and the development of collaboration and shared governance practice across Cardiff schools.

Agile working is a key feature of this role, with a base at County Hall, Cardiff Bay, and regular engagement with schools across the city.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for an individual with experience of working with schools, governing bodies, local government or within an education, community or public service setting. You will have an understanding of the importance of effective governance, education systems and the principles of public service.

You will bring excellent communication, organisational and partnership-working skills, with the ability to provide advice, support and guidance to governors, clerks and school leaders. Strong IT skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage sensitive information are essential.

You will be a proactive and resilient team player, committed to delivering high-quality outcomes, promoting equality of opportunity and supporting the continued development of school governance across Cardiff. Welsh language skills or a commitment to learn are also welcomed, but not essential.
