The Role:

You will be part of a Relationship Management Team that supports the Bank’s existing unregulated customers, from Commercial Trading, hospitality, hotels and healthcare to Real Estate Finance.

The team aims to deliver long term sustainable value for the Bank and you will support the full life cycle of the customer relationship – from growth aspirations through the sale of products the Bank’s has available, through to proactively managing expiring loans; customer satisfaction is key with a strong focus on retaining our existing customers. There will also be the opportunity to win and write new business for new clients across our sectors typically in the range of £2m – £10m as your portfolio is built up to c35-40 clients.

This is all underpinned by a strong understanding of risk management and proactively ensuring all borrowing adheres to its terms and conditions and aligned to the Bank’s credit and wider requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead implementation of the business banking strategy; include achievement of growth, income targets and adherence to the Bank’s standards in respect of operational and regulatory risk
  • Drive team performance by coaching, mentoring and motivating team members
  • Ensure adherence to the bank’s disaster recovery/business continuity procedures; to include liaising with Systems to review and update plans for your area and ensuring staff are fully informed of these plans and their specific responsibilities
  • Proactively manage and develop a portfolio of business and real estate customers (typically £2m – £30m). Monitor portfolio and take action as necessary to minimise risk and ensure quality account management.
  • Monitor relevant Management Information and ensure appropriate action is reported
  • Identify opportunities and proactively promote / sell products to existing customers
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key business partners to maximise potential growth of business with referrals to the Originations team as required
  • Maximise new lending opportunities to existing customers
  • Independently assess, critically evaluate, prepare and submit applications for loan facilities, ensuring appropriate commentary and analysis to aid decision making to high standards expected.
  • Proactively manage expiring loans and unscheduled redemptions seeking to retain debt which is within the Bank’s risk appetite
  • Monitor market developments and competitor activity. Recommend and implement appropriate action to ensure the Bank competes effectively
  • Provide input to Bank policy including lending guidelines, product development and overall risk management
  • Proactively identify and prevent duplication to improve procedural efficiency
  • Ensure that portfolio is fully compliant with the Bank’s AML policies and procedures
  • Ensure that KYC procedures including the requirements for periodic reviews in accordance with the AML framework on all customer connections are maintained and recorded
  • Ensure procedure manuals are regularly reviewed and updated to support the adherence to agreed policy and procedures
  • Maintain delivery of a high quality service to customers.

Essential Skills, experience and Qualifications:

Technical skills

  • Demonstrate high quality asset class knowledge in Trading Businesses and Real Estate Finance
  • Needs to demonstrate end to end knowledge across the customer journey covering deal structuring, execution and ongoing risk management
  • Strong credit, financial analysis and modelling skills, including the ability to write good quality, structured papers.
  • Experience in the analysis of senior and cashflow transactions.
  • Understand and adhere to the Bank’s policies and procedures with particular reference to:
    • Consumer Duty (incorporating consideration of Vulnerable Customers)
    • Fair Treatment of Customers
    • Information Security and Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR)
    • Risk management and reporting of risk management incidents
    • Regulatory compliance and prevention of financial crime
    • Disaster recovery and business continuity
    • Conduct Rules and Professional Standards

Relevant and/or preferred qualifications (please specify required or preferred)

  • University Degree (Preferred)
  • Banking Exams (Preferred)
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (Preferred)

  • Support Bank wide Forums as required or identified.

  • Demonstrate alignment and actively promote the Bank’s values.

Risk and/or governance responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively alongside 2LOD to ensure transactions are structured appropriately reflecting the Bank’s risk appetite.
  • Demonstrate a high level of preparedness for Executive Credit Committee presentations, providing a significant degree of comfort to voting members.
  • Demonstrate a high level of understanding of the Bank’s KYC and AML procedures.
  • Ensure procedure manuals are regularly reviewed and updated to support the adherence to agreed policy and procedures.
  • Ensure that all material audit, risk or compliance issues and audit action points are concluded promptly and within agreed deadlines.

Outline of Leadership responsibilities (to be demonstrated at a reasonable level of competence)

  • Demonstrate market presence while promoting the Cynergy Bank brand with customers and business partners.
  • Take accountability of individual budgets from both a lending and liabilities perspective as required.
  • Proactively manage lending with a high degree of accuracy and transparency.
  • Proactively contribute to the Performance Planning and Review process
  • Contribute a ‘One Team’ approach in line with the Bank values creating excellent employee engagement.
  • Proactively collaborate between the Origination and Portfolio teams, creating a “One Team” image, both internal and external.
