We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke. The role involves providing senior medical cover on Nash Ward, our 12-bed PICU service for men, or Sandford Ward, our 16-bed Female acute service. The post holder will serve as the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients as required. They will also be responsible for auditing medical services to ensure quality in line with GMC standards and other professional guidelines. Your expertise will drive life-changing treatments, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a Responsible Clinician seeking to expand into management as a Deputy Medical Director, alongside clinical development. Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead high-quality care provision on Nash or Sandford Ward
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating a constructive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
  • Perform investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits
  • Implement risk assessments, risk management, and embed clinical governance
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave approvals
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Maintain communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, and other bodies, maintaining reports
  • Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD
  • Contribute to a 1:6 Telephone On-call rota
