Flood Risk Asset Performance Team Member

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking team at the heart of flood risk asset management in South Wales. You will play an essential role in shaping long-term plans that determine where new flood defence assets are needed and how existing critical infrastructure, including coastal and tidal defences, embankments, sluices, and pumping stations is maintained, improved, and protected for the future.

In this varied and meaningful role, you will gather, interpret, and analyse asset and flood risk data to produce briefing notes, business cases, reports, and contracts. Your work will directly inform key decisions and support projects that reduce the risk of flooding and help safeguard communities across the region.

We are looking for technically skilled individuals with experience gained across different roles or organisations, and a solid understanding of both the practical demands of flood risk management and the wider organisational context in which we operate. While primarily office-based, the role also includes on-site work and travel between NRW offices and partner locations, with some at-home working. You will need to be adaptable, practical, and comfortable working in both desk-based and field environments.

This is an ideal role for someone with a strong technical background and a genuine passion for using their expertise to protect the environment and improve the resilience of communities across South Wales. As an organisation, we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. About us: We are the Asset Performance Team within Natural Resources Wales, part of the national Flood Risk Management function. Our role is to understand how Wales's flood defence assets are performing, so we can make evidence-based decisions that protect people, property, and the environment. We collect and analyse data, identify future risks, and work with partners to develop practical, long-term solutions that strengthen resilience across Welsh communities.

What you will do:

• Assist in the development and management of a programme of work that contributes to the delivery of Directorate targets.
• Help ensure that local decisions are consistent and are risk-based and in line with agreed Government approach.
• Assist in maintaining the National Flood Risk Asset Management System, AMX and associated flood risk data.
• Collect data from sources as required to help analyse flood risk asset management need.
• Support Operations Teams to enable delivery of the Asset Maintenance programme by providing relevant information.
• Assist in the preparation of pre-feasibility studies resulting from Flood Risk Management Plans and Shoreline Management Plans.
• Support Health and Safety best practice by actively promoting awareness and ensuring the provision of safe working practices to comply with NRW's policy and standards.
• Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

• Required to take part in incident response activities.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a scientific or engineering subject is desirable, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience.
• Knowledge of flood risk management activities and understanding of wider approaches to river and coastal asset management.
• Basic knowledge of ICT.
• Knowledge of GIS systems and CAD (e.g. ARCGIS, AutoCAD).
• Experience of data collection and analysing as well as report writing.
• Some knowledge of Health and Safety and relevant regulations e.g. Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) would be an advantage.
• Must have full UK driving licence.

Welsh Language level requirements:

• Essential: Level A1 - Entry level.
