The role involves making a real impact on Wales's natural environment through data management and GIS support. As part of the Woodland Programme Team, you will contribute to high-profile projects such as the Wales Wader Survey 2026, which informs decisions for woodland creation and management in Wales.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Woodland creation, restoration, and management projects.
- Ensuring accurate mapping, data integrity, and spatial analysis.
- Developing, maintaining, and analysing large datasets and geospatial information.
- Producing accurate maps and maintaining the woodland programme mapping portal.
- Collecting and analysing environmental data.
- Managing complex datasets and adapting processes to align with the Sustainable Farming Scheme (2026).

About us: The Woodland Programme Team plays a key role in delivering Wales's woodland ambitions, supporting nature recovery, climate resilience, and sustainable timber production.
What you will do:
- Lead on data management analysis and governance.
- Support the delivery of projects to improve dataset accuracy and availability.
- Develop and manage data sets and ensure data security.
- Support data entry and validation through training and mentoring.
- Undertake analysis and manipulation of data to support reporting requirements.
- Contribute to the development of new data methods for efficiency improvements.
- Identify data collection methods and tools.
- Undertake occasional fieldwork for primary data collection.
- Work collaboratively with other teams to deliver strategic action.
- Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.
- Commit to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy.
- Engage in personal development through an effective personal development plan.
Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:
- Excellent spatial data management skills and experience in GIS.
- Experience handling spatial environmental data.
- Experience creating map products and styling.
- Knowledge of data management systems and environmental data handling.
- A degree level qualification in a relevant subject area or equivalent knowledge.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Higher level of IT knowledge, including Geospatial and PowerBI.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to present information clearly.
Welsh Language level requirements:
- Essential: Level A1 - Entry level.
