Senior Officer – River Wye Restoration at Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales.
Overview
The Upper Wye Catchment Restoration Team was created to deliver improvements that address a range of pressures affecting the Upper Wye Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The project aims to reach agreements with farmers and landowners to carry out fully funded work on their land to restore and improve habitat, reduce sediment and pollutants, and improve the resilience of the river to extreme weather events and climate change.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and supervise farm advisory visits to identify areas where works could be carried out in line with project aims.
- Plan, deliver and supervise river restoration works and survey and treatment programmes for invasive non‑native plant species (INNS).
- Provide advice and guidance on environmental policy and regulations, protected species and best practice in river restoration and conservation.
- Apply for and manage environmental consents and formal agreements with landowners.
- Procure and manage NRW framework contractors to deliver agreed works on time and to budget.
- Support the Team Leader in ensuring delivery of project objectives and reporting progress to agreed milestones.
- Maintain good governance of the project, including strict adherence to NRW procurement and health and safety practices.
About the Team
The Upper Wye Catchment Restoration Team is part of the Strategic Projects, within the Operations Directorate. The team works across the river Wye covering the two operation environment teams, North and South Powys, collaborating within NRW and with external stakeholders to restore the condition of the upper Wye SAC.
