Team / Directorate: Data, Digital & Technology (DDaT), Finance & Corporate Services

Starting salary: £41,132 rising to £44,988 per annum through annual increments being paid each year (pro rata for part time applicants)

Contract type: Permanent

Work pattern: 37 hours per week. You will need to work as part of a flexible shift pattern to cover service hours of 8am to 6pm. Also, you will need to work on a time specific rota providing an ‘Out of Hours’ ICT Service to an agreed level and perform overtime as required to meet the business needs.

The role:

  • Reporting to the Application Support Team Leader, the Senior Application Support Engineer will be responsible for leading the technical support, development, and maintenance of all Spatial Solutions within Natural Resources Wales (NRW).
  • This will be delivered within an ITIL framework and aligned with the broader team’s Target Operating Model to ensure a high-quality, customer-focused service.
  • The postholder will also act as the Technical Lead for all GIS applications.
  • As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment.
  • Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.
  • Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
  • Successful external applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check.
  • We aim to make offers of appointment within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you will do:

  • Lead in supporting GIS applications.
  • Contribute to the development of GIS solutions.
  • Ensure the health and availability of applications and systems in line with DDaT governance.
  • Ensure that incidents and service requests are resolved within the agreed service level agreements.
  • Work with Application Support Team Leader to implement the Application Support Team workplan.
  • Work with other Senior Engineers to resolve issues and improve live systems.
  • Be the escalation for technical issues and advise Engineers, Analysts and Apprentices within the team.
  • Attend DDaT Governance forums and contribute towards the design and implementation of new solutions.
  • Lead, define and plan proactive maintenance tasks including routine upgrades of services.
  • Work with external strategic partners to ensure application issues are resolved within service level agreements.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:

  • Experience of development and maintenance of ESRI technology including the ArcGIS Enterprise suite.
  • Experience in managing and developing Geocortex applications.
  • Working experience of application lifecycle methodologies.
  • Experience of Incident, Problem, Change and Release management processes.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Experience and understanding of FME Flow, FME Form, FME Desktop and FME Server.
  • Experience of working in a pure cloud Azure environment.

Desirable:

  • A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh) previous Level 1.
