I'm looking for an experienced Liaison Engineer to join a leading Marine Engineering business in Port Glasgow. This is a pivotal role acting as the bridge between the Design Office and Production Teams, ensuring engineering intent is clearly communicated and effectively implemented on the shop floor. As vessels move from concept to construction, you will ensure designs are practical, buildable, compliant, and delivered to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary interface between Engineering and Production departments
- Interpret and clarify technical drawings, specifications, and design intent for shop floor teams
- Identify and resolve design-to-build issues to maintain schedule and quality targets
- Provide engineering input into build sequences, material usage, and structural integration
- Manage and communicate design changes effectively across departments
- Conduct regular site walkdowns to monitor progress and provide hands-on engineering support
- Collaborate with Naval Architects, Structural Engineers, and Outfit Designers to optimise constructability
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with classification society rules and shipyard standards
Essential Skills
- Degree or HND in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years' experience in shipbuilding or heavy marine fabrication
- Strong understanding of shipyard processes, structural fabrication, outfitting, and modular construction
- Proven ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D models
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, SolidWorks, and production planning tools
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with classification societies and regulatory bodies
- Knowledge of welding standards, material specifications, and structural tolerances
- Experience leading cross-functional technical discussions
- Familiarity with digital shipbuilding workflows and PLM systems
