The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton welcomes applications for a senior teaching fellow (assistant professor level equivalent) in chemical engineering. The School graduated its first undergraduates in chemical engineering in 2025. We have grown staff and student numbers over the last 5 years and invested heavily in teaching facilities. Our BEng, MEng and MSc programmes were recently accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers.

About The Role

We seek candidates with a strong focus on education and willingness to teach across a range of topics within the core chemical engineering syllabus. The appointee will be strongly committed to supporting students in teaching, as a personal tutor and through School leadership roles. Initially, the appointee may be asked to support student placements, so experience in that space will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core chemical engineering topics across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Support students as a personal tutor and provide individualized guidance.
  • Take on leadership roles within the Chemical Education group and the wider School.
  • Assist with student placements, ensuring quality practical experience.
  • Engage in pedagogic research, outreach and contribution to education excellence.
