The Faculty of Medicine finance team are seeking to appoint a part-time accountant – qualified or a finalist - to be part of our professional team. This is supporting a truly exciting area of the University, which is a national leader in medical education with an outstanding reputation for expertise in research and teaching.

The prime responsibility of the post will be to act as the main point of contact for the financial management of several different units that interlock across the 4 Schools in the Faculty of Medicine. This will involve carrying out a range of professional accountancy tasks to assist in planning, forecasting, monitoring and year-end processes to financially support the Individual School Accountants. In addition, you will be responsible for the post-award management of a small portfolio of research grants from various funders.

You will be well organised, with excellent analytical and numeracy skills, with an eye for detail and capable of effectively managing a wide range of simultaneous projects/activities. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to prioritise their work in order to meet deadlines in a busy environment. Good communication, IT and customer service skills are essential to the role.

The successful candidate will be line-managing 1 member of staff. This role will include flexible working between Home, Highfield campus and/or University Hospital Southampton, which is where key stakeholders are based. 0.6 FTE – 21 hours a week ideally over 4 days.
