Our UK law firm client has a long-standing presence in the VC and PE space and a busy, effective team acting for scaleup, fast growth and more established mid-market UK clients – sponsors and corporates.
The team are now looking for a Funds partner in London, likely with an existing network of contacts, a profile in the London market, and someone who wants to help drive this practice area forward with a degree of autonomy. There is some existing workflow that can be inherited by an incoming partner, but the firm ultimately needs business builders across its entire offering so it is important you can show a willingness to build, develop and deepen client relationships.
Technically, you will need expertise in structuring, establishment and advice to VC and similar funds, even if this may sit within a more generalist funds skill set. Existing partners within this firm are highly regarded and ranked in the directories and, overall, the department has a loyal client base which continues to grow and prosper.
All the necessary infrastructure is in place to accommodate a funds partner, including regulatory, tax, finance and corporate. It is important that you understand and enjoy the nature and culture of these types of clients, the requirements they have of their external counsel and the level of advice required on a day-to-day basis.
The firm is happy to consider existing partners, and those on the cusp of partnership who are being frustrated by bottlenecks. But in both cases, cultural fit will be crucial along with a realistic business plan.
With a super brand and affable, committed partners, this opportunity represents a good, established platform for those looking to make a long-term lateral move and be part of what is already an impressive growth story. The firm is stable, profitable and has strong retention rates.
