Our client is a leading top-tier European intellectual property firm, dedicated to protecting and enforcing our clients’ IP rights, relentless in delivering the highest client service and commercial solutions. It brings together the specialist services of trademark and patent attorneys with intellectual property solicitors, providing a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all IP and related issues. The current team is around 270 people, including over 40 partners and over 75 qualified attorneys and solicitors. The firm has offices in London, Munich and Southampton.

Due to growth and a maturing of the infrastructure, the firm has created a new role of Senior Risk, Compliance and Governance Manager (lawyer) and we are seeking a qualified solicitor to take up this position. The role will cover a wide range of legal and risk matters including:

  • Adherence to industry regulations such as the SRA, FCA and IPReg
  • Data protection, record retention, DSARs and liaison with the ICO
  • Client onboarding, including conflicts checks, AML and financial crime compliance
  • Commercial contracts and terms of engagement with clients
  • Partnership and company secretarial matters
  • Business Continuity
  • Managing Risk Registers
  • Handling complaints and reviews as necessary

The postholder will have considerable responsibility and autonomy and will be working closely with the senior management of the firm. Therefore, we are seeking a confident individual who has experience of stakeholder management and has presence and gravitas. Excellent communication skills will be required because the role will require you to explain complex matters to non-technical colleagues.

The successful candidate must be a qualified solicitor with at least 8+ years’ PQE and will have gained experience in a number of the listed areas of risk and compliance. German language skills and/or an understanding of the German legal systems would be highly advantageous, although not essential. Any previous experience of IP law or the IP regime in the UK will also be favoured.

The firm is friendly and collaborative with a positive work-life balance culture. The role can be undertaken on a hybrid basis (60% office), and you may choose London or Southampton as your base. Some additional travel may be required.

This is an exciting opportunity for a risk and compliance lawyer who is looking to step into an independent role and take the lead on shaping the function for the future.
