We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide support in an established finance team. You will deliver timely, accurate financial reporting, identify areas of concern, analyse data to support costings for commitments, and contribute to robust forecasting. This is a hands-on role working closely with internal customers and stakeholders, offering financial insight, challenge, and support to enable informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and lead regular budget meetings, presenting financial reports and constructively challenging projected forecasts.
- Produce comprehensive narrative reports and accurate forecasts for customer review and sign-off, ensuring inclusion in wider reporting as required.
- Ensure all forecast variances are supported by a robust evidence base and clear audit trail.
- Monitor payment arrangements relating to strategic partners and providers.
- Undertake budget monitoring, establishment monitoring and costing, completion of grant claims, production of statistics, and support final accounts closure in line with deadlines, schedules, KPIs, and quality standards.
- Support the annual budget-setting process, working with customers to prepare, justify, and agree budgets.
- Provide financial expertise on projects and ad hoc work as required.
- Complete financial and statutory returns accurately and within required deadlines.
About You
- Experience in a finance or accounting role, with strong budget monitoring/reporting skills.
- Confident in analysing financial information and producing clear, accurate forecasts and narrative reports.
- Comfortable working with stakeholders, presenting financial information, and providing constructive challenge.
- Highly organised with ability to meet multiple deadlines and maintain accurate audit trails.
- Part or fully AAT qualified (or equivalent experience) is desirable.
