CIOT, together with the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), represents over 35,000 tax students and professionals globally and is the leading professional body for taxation in the UK. This role offers the opportunity to work within a respected, not-for-profit organisation with a strong educational mission and international footprint.

The Opportunity

This is a varied and hands-on role combining international tax compliance with finance administration. You will play a key role in managing tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, while also supporting daily finance operations such as cash postings, bank reconciliations, and reporting. The role requires strong organisation, attention to detail, and confidence working across deadlines and stakeholders in different countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • International Tax
  • Manage and prepare international sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Run monthly income reports from the CRM system for designated countries.
  • Maintain master spreadsheets tracking monthly and annual tax liabilities.
  • Ensure sales tax is calculated accurately in line with country-specific requirements.

  • Maintain regular communication with UK and international tax partners.
  • Attend weekly compliance meetings with UK tax advisers.
  • Arrange tax payments to overseas partners where required.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end tax liability reports for management and auditors.
  • Finance Administration
    • Daily allocation and posting of bank receipts into finance and CRM systems.
    • Complete monthly bank reconciliations by the second working day of each month.
    • Update daily cash flow statements.
    • Process student refunds and respond to finance inbox queries.
    • Raise monthly sales invoices for registrations and examinations.
    • Support credit control activities when required.
    • Collaborate with the Finance Manager and Financial Controller on reporting.
    • Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave.

    Role Context

    • Initially, the role will involve a split between international tax work and manual cash postings.
    • CIOT is currently developing bank reconciliation automation, expected to complete by the end of 2026.
    • As automation progresses, this role will take full ownership of cash postings, reconciliations, and related administration.
    • Historic international filings are nearing completion, with full business-as-usual tax submissions expected from 2026 onward.

    About You

    • Experience & Knowledge
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a finance or accounts environment.
    • Strong experience in bank reconciliations and cash posting.
    • Confident working with large volumes of data and multiple finance/CRM systems.
    • Solid foundational accounting and finance knowledge.
    • Able to manage workload independently and meet strict deadlines.
