We are supporting an NHS client seeking an experienced Project Accountant to provide specialist financial support on a portfolio of significant capital investment projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong NHS capital experience, business case development expertise, and a solid understanding of the HM Treasury Green Book methodology to contribute to high-profile investment programmes.
The Role
Working closely with Finance, Estates, and Operational stakeholders, you will support the development and financial appraisal of major capital schemes, ensuring business cases are robust, financially sound, and aligned to NHS and Treasury requirements.
Key responsibilities will include
- Supporting the development of significant capital business cases.
- Producing and maintaining Capital Investment Appraisal Models.
- Undertaking financial option appraisals and investment evaluations.
- Supporting the preparation of Strategic Outline Cases (SOC), Outline Business Cases (OBC), and Full Business Cases (FBC).
- Applying HM Treasury Green Book principles to ensure value-for-money assessments are robust and evidence-based.
- Working with project teams to identify costs, benefits, risks, and financial impacts of proposed investments.
- Providing financial support for capital funding submissions and approvals.
- Presenting financial information and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Supporting benefits realisation and post-investment review processes where required.
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate
- Significant NHS finance experience at Band 7 to 8a level.
- Strong background in capital accounting, capital planning, or project finance.
- Experience developing financial aspects of large-scale capital business cases.
- Working knowledge of HM Treasury's Green Book methodology and the Five Case Model.
- Experience using Capital Investment Appraisal Models and conducting option appraisals.
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and business partnering abilities.
- Professional accountancy qualification (CCAB/CIMA) or equivalent experience desirable.
