An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our urology team. The role will require the successful clinician to work within the four pillars of Advanced Practice which includes:
- Clinical management of patients (autonomous assessment/investigation/diagnosis and management to include non-medical independent prescribing)
- Leadership - lead on service developments and implementing change processes, provide clinical leadership to MDT members
- Education - provide education, mentorship and support to a wide multi-professional audience. Maintain own education needs and a live portfolio of advanced practice
- Research - demonstrate use of evidence-based practice and involvement in research projects (QIP/Audit)
The job is open to fully trained ACPs from multi-professional backgrounds. We are also willing to consider those who require full ACP training, and in this instance, Annex 21 will be applied to the post.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn’t need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
Main duties of the job: The ACP will be expected to provide clinical assessment and decision making for patients presenting with a urology problem into acute areas including the emergency department, ward referrals and out-patient settings. The role will include both acute assessment and out-patient clinics/diagnostics, and will cover urology services across the CTM HB.
Maintain a portfolio of AP to demonstrate the four pillars of advanced practice:
- Clinical - will be expected to undertake clinical assessment, request relevant investigations, make diagnosis and initiate treatment and management plans according to patient need, including non-medical independent prescribing. They will be required to undertake clinical assessment as an independent clinician. They will be expected to support effective communication between teams, MDT and patient/relatives. Opportunities will be provided to develop urology specific skills.
- Leadership - clinical leadership of MDT. Development of ACP led urology services. Develop QiPs, attend and be an instrumental part of relevant HB strategy groups or forums e.g., Enhanced, Advanced and Consultant Forum for CTM.
- Education - be responsible for own educational needs, striving to enhance and develop own skills, knowledge and competence. Maintain a live portfolio of evidence.
- Research - use guidelines to support clinical decisions in practice.

This will be based on an individual's personal situation.
Annex 21: During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows: Months 1 - 12 of the training period will be paid at 65% of the top of Band 7 pay scale, Months 13-24 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 7 pay scale, Months 25 - 36 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 7 pay scale. Upon successful attainment of the qualification, even if sooner than the 36 months allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the bottom of the Band 7 pay scale (without financial detriment), as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Job Description as indicated.
NOTE: There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 7, again without financial detriment.
A scope of practice will be developed to support the successful candidate in outlining the nuances of the ACP role within this speciality.
Person Specification:
- Education: UK NMC Registration, In receipt of relevant clinical Level 7 (masters) education, Working toward relevant clinical Level 7 (masters) education, Working toward non-medical independent prescribing module
- Welsh Language: Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3 or above
- Clinical: Able to carry out competent physical assessment, make diagnosis and appropriate management plans, Able to prescribe a wide range of drug treatments safely and independently
- Leadership: Able to demonstrate ability to lead a clinical team, Able to demonstrate ability to identify and action change in practice, Able to understand how to lead a clinical team; able to demonstrate involvement in change processes
- Research: Able to demonstrate use or involvement in research in practice, Able to demonstrate leading or being involved in research based projects e.g. QiP, Able to demonstrate understanding of research and research based projects
