Porter Driver/Catering Assistant

The Post Holder is responsible for ensuring the safe transportation, delivery and collection of frozen food items to various sites both internal and external to the UHB and also the transportation of completed frozen products to and from both units at the Central production Unit (CPU).
Includes delivery and collection to and from hospitals and neighbouring Health Boards/Trusts.
To maintain and promote the highest standards of service delivery and help maintain open and effective communications.
To meet and adhere to all legislative requirements while responsible for the CPU Vehicle.
Main duties of the job
- Work within Cwm Taf Morgannwg CPU, undertaking all duties and be able to work on one\’s own as well as being a team member.
- Maintain strict control of a 12 ton vehicle and ensure that temperature and mileage log book is completed with accurate readings, and also document any defects via driver\’s report/defect booklet.
- Hold a clean and valid Cat C driving licence to include CPC Card and also carry a digital licence to drive CPU Vehicle.
- Responsible for taking the Vehicle for regular services or any other vehicle repairs to the designated garage.
- Comply with road traffic legislation, and Health and safety Legislation when using vehicles on road; be fully aware of and conversant with the Highway Code.
- Ensure that daily checks on the maintenance of both 12 ton and 7.5-ton Vehicle are carried out at the start and end of shift pattern as stated in the CPC regulations.
- Adhere to the driver\’s guide to hours/Tachographs.
- Assist in preparation, processing, chilling or freezing of raw materials in accordance with the strict procedures.
- Undertake various cleaning duties as detailed by the online Supervisor in line with Legislative requirements.
- Work or transport in two separate Units—the production unit and the working freezer unit.

Job responsibilities
- Work with the Production Manager to ensure adherence to all operational policies, procedures, schedules of work, safe systems of work, audit their implementation and ensure documentation is kept up to date regarding the National Certificate of Professional Competence in National Haulage Licence (CPC). Review working practices regularly to respond to legislation, internal and external influences.
- Resolve a wide range of operational problems that may arise within daily duties whilst driving CPU Vehicles. Ensure that the Driver works safely, and have the confidence and ability to respond appropriately to varied situations.
- Assist in preparation, processing, chilling or freezing of raw materials using sophisticated high-volume cooking and chilling/freezing equipment.
- Undertake various cleaning duties as detailed by the online Supervisor in line with Legislative requirements.
- Work or transport in two separate Units—the production unit and the working freezer unit, requiring walking between them.
Welsh Skills Desirable
Welsh speaking and listening skills at Level 3 or above (equivalent to CEFR B2) are desirable but not essential. This requires basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Category C driving licence if passed National Certificate of Professional Competence in National Haulage Licence (CPC), and must complete 35 hours of CPC training every 5 years.
- Certificate in Basic food hygiene.
Experience
- Experience working within a busy production unit environment.
- Experience working within a catering environment; local knowledge of area.
- Welsh speaking / listening skills level 3 or above.
