Job overview: The post-holder will join the friendly and enthusiastic clinical team based working across Cwm Taf Morgannwg as a Specialty doctor covering Stroke Medicine. The Stroke Unit is presently based in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital as part of an Urgent Service Change but may be placed at any of our 3 District General Hospitals in the future. Welsh and English speakers are both equally welcome to apply.
These are full time posts, replacement of a recently vacated posts. The post offers significant developmental opportunities to further the applicants interest in Stroke Medicine. This posts provide speciality doctor cover to support the consultants and resident doctors on the acute stroke unit. This posts welcome candidates who wish to be supported through the CESR route to gain entry to the specialist register, or candidates who wish to pursue a post as a specialist grade. This post has no on-call commitment associated with it, but the post-holder may wish to work as a “Medical Registrar” or pursue sufficient competencies to join the “Out of Hours Stroke” rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- Supporting ward rounds in the Acute Stroke Unit.
- Supervision of the resident medical team and acts as a source of advice and support to the nursing staff.
- Review patients presenting with signs of an acute stroke in the Emergency Department and advise on the need for admission to the stroke unit, supported by the stroke consultant of the day.
- Attend stroke clinic and TIA clinics.
- Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the stroke service and General Medical services across the base hospital.
