Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Cwm Taf Morgannwg for full‑time Mortuary and Bereavement support officers. The post‑holder will contribute to the efficient running of the mortuary service, working under their own initiative and prioritising their own workload to ensure the smooth running of a very busy service.
Responsibilities
- Organise and coordinate the daily caseload to ensure required tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Receive and release bodies, ensuring that identification and documentation meet quality standards as defined in Standard Operating Procedures.
- Prepare, measure, and lay out bodies for viewing by relatives, friends, or police.
- Deal with telephone and other enquiries related to the service from inside and outside the UHB politely and efficiently.
- Liaise with the Medical Examiner Service and doctors to ensure the completion of death certificates as required.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene within the mortuary and associated areas, cleaning and disinfecting equipment and reporting any problems.
- Undertake assessment of infection risks on bodies received in the mortuary.
- Drive the mortuary’s private ambulance in accordance with the provision of the service and ensure the vehicle and fuel charge card are kept securely.
Qualifications
- Good standard of general education.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to learn new tasks.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- Understanding of customer care and meeting the needs of the general public; excellent telephone and communication manner required.
- Welsh language speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (CEFR B2) or above are desirable but not essential.
