Job overview

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Echocardiographer or Trainee Echocardiographer (annex 21) to work within our rapidly developing diagnostic Unit.

We deliver Transthoracic echo, Dobutamine and Exercise Stress echo, Transoesophageal echo, ACHD clinics with established Physiologist-led services including Contrast, VHD clinics.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to cover career break. If you are interested in applying for a secondment, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

Band 7
For the qualified position applicants must hold a BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent. BSE Adult accreditation. RCCP registration.
OR
Band 7 (Annex 21)
As a Trainee - must hold a Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) BSc or Cardiac Science STP graduate Echo or equivalent
To undertake year two of a two-year training programme to obtain the relevant professional body exams, training, and experience (complete British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) accreditation and be scanning autonomously at Band 7 level for at least a year), to meet the full requirements of this Band 7 Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist role and all duties as indicated within this job description.
During this period, remuneration will be 70% at the top of Band 7 for year one (months 1-12), and 75% of the top of Band 7 for year 2 (months 13-24) of training.

We are looking to appoint someone who will relish the challenge of being part of our team and possess the initiative and drive to complement the responsibility of this role.

The post holder will work as part of a team of cardiac physiologists based in the Cardiac Physiology department, providing a quality Echocardiography service to both inpatients and outpatients.

They will be required to undertake a range of complex activities of a highly specialist nature (Echocardiography), ensuring that they provide a high standard of care to all patients accessing the service within the resources available. Working across the sites within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) as service requires.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 6, again without financial detriment.
