An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic team within the Colposcopy and Hysteroscopy service in Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The role would be to support the professional practitioners, assisting in the provision of high standards of holistic care.
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) should assist with creating a welcoming, caring and safe environment. The post holder will be required to work both within the clerical and clinical environment supporting service provision.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing support and direct assistance to medical and nursing staff within all aspects of the Women's Health units by undertaking nursing care and treatment as appropriate and as planned for clients.
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team fostering good communication and working relations with colleagues from all disciplines, often dealing with sensitive and emotive problems, ensuring signposting to the correct medical professional/clinic for ongoing management.
- Being proficient in a range of clinical duties which require a basic level of knowledge, e.g. recording and documenting client observations, ensuring accurate measurements and recording of blood pressure, weight, height, Body Mass Index, pregnancy testing, venepuncture, urine testing, etc., reporting to qualified staff as necessary.
- Acting as a chaperone and assisting the Doctor/Nurse during clinical examinations/procedures, as appropriate and as requested, ensuring correct labelling of all samples.
- Ensuring the availability of patient notes at all clinics (base and satellite), maintaining and updating the tracer system.
- Being experienced in basic IT skills including Word Processing and undertaking any relevant training, ensuring all ongoing training needs are met.
- Inputting data onto Patient Information systems.
- Ensuring that all positive results from investigations are directed to the appropriate senior member of staff for action.
- Ensuring that pathology/scan results are presented to medical/nursing staff for appropriate action and once action is completed, filed appropriately in the correct patient notes.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
