The closing date is 11 February 2026. Families First health team provide an Enhanced Health and Well-Being support Service to families who have children aged 3 1/2 to 8 years of age who have identified health related needs and would benefit from extra support in addition to core universal health services and prior to the need for specialist secondary or specialist health service.

The Community Nursery Nurse provides a range of health interventions to support the family which may include strategies to support parents whose children are having issues such as delayed toilet training, sleep problems, difficulties with emotional regulation, and establishing gentle routines and boundaries. In addition to working with families in the home, the Families First Community Nursery Nurse undertakes school observation visits, attends Team Around the Family meetings, and accompanies families to appointments or support groups as necessary.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months April 1st 2026 - March 31st 2027, due to funding. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job:

  • To document any therapeutic play interventions and outcomes, producing detailed reports for discussion with other professionals.
  • To appropriately refer on to other agencies as necessary.
  • To promote an awareness of the importance of play for children and their families liaising with members of the multi-disciplinary team throughout all establishments where there are children.
  • To liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to assist in the management of the child/young person and family attending child health clinics and other community groups.
  • To participate in producing information leaflets and booklets for children and families in the community.
  • To work with the multi-agency team looking at referrals and identifying appropriate action.
  • To work with the multi-agency team to meet the agreed objectives of the project.
  • To have specialised skills in communicating with children and their families and interpret the same through the media of play.
  • To participate in staff meetings.

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • NNEB (Nursery Nursing examination board) or Early Years Child Care BTEC equivalent.
  • Knowledge and training to assess the level of play for children at each stage of development.
  • Welsh Language Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3 or above.

Experience:

  • Appropriate experience working with children.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
