The predicted salary is between 37338 - 44962 Β£ per year.

There are three 8-12 bedded Critical Care units across the health board and a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at our Royal Glamorgan hospital. Our department includes a Pain Management service supported by pain nurses, providing services for acute and chronic pain management with weekly interventional lists. Our Pre-Operative Assessment service has won numerous national awards for its innovative approach and quality improvement projects and is leading the way in the standardisation and improvement of Pre-Operative services across Wales.

You will be joining us at an exciting time for the organisation as we develop regional diagnostic and day surgery facilities at Llantrisant Health Park at our Royal Glamorgan site for the communities of South East Wales; Clinical Leadership for this programme is provided by one of our Consultant Anaesthetists.

Secretarial support and office space is provided on each of our hospital sites, staff have access to meeting and training rooms and rest facilities. Hot desking facilities and library facilities are provided within each site and laptops are available for remote access working. There is free parking on all sites and lease cars are available via the NHS Wales Salary Sacrifice scheme.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist in the provision and development of safe, effective and efficient anaesthetic and critical care services across the Health Board.
  • Participate in the resident on-call rota for out of hours emergency work, including weekends; frequency 1:8 with prospective cover.
  • Clinical teaching and supervision of junior staff including postgraduates within the department.
  • Involvement in departmental teaching meetings, journal club and study days.
  • Participate in the departmental audit and quality improvement teaching sessions.
  • Participate in departmental audit and quality improvement projects.
  • Participate in risk management processes and clinical governance activities.
  • Actively engage in research and development.
  • Actively engage in continuous professional development.
  • Co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues the medical contribution to management.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols.
  • Review and develop policies for clinical practice and effectiveness.
  • Participate in the strategic planning for the service.
  • Work within financial and other constraints of the department.
  • Comply with current local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that arrangements are in place for the organisation of medical staff and that they are allocated duties in accordance with the work of the department.

Qualifications and Eligibility
  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • 4 years postgraduate training (or equivalent on part time or flexible basis), 3 of which in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have relevant experience or competencies.
  • Ability to work unsupervised during unsociable hours.
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
  • Part 1 FRCA.
